Country-specific Requirements

Admission requirements vary by country, so before starting the application you should note the specific requirements for our application process.

Your nationality is irrelevant for our application process, only the country where you obtained your certificates is important.

Periods of study:

In case of prior incomplete study programs (without a degree) you have to provide evidence for the number of years successfully passed (such as by means of a stamp in your record of study).
Please keep in mind that a minimum number of (graded) examinations must have been successfully passed within one academic year. The required number of examinations is based on the study regulations of the respective university (usually eight per academic year). If the study regulation of your university deviates from this rule, this must be proved by presenting an official document from your university.

Type of course:

The documents must indicate the type of course (on site, distance learning or evening course).

Status of university:

Information about the status of universities (state, state recognized private university) can be found at www.anabin.kmk.org. If the university you attended is listed on this website as being an ‘accredited private university’ with the status ‘H +/-’, you need to submit the accreditation certificate of your program of study (subject-specific accreditation by the respective ministry).
The accreditation certificate must clearly specify the level of accreditation of your program of study. If the certificate specifies only areas between levels of accreditation - for example level II to IV - you need to enclose the relevant annex with subject codes including accreditation levels for the respective codes. Consequently, the annex must indicate the concrete level of accreditation (II, II or IV) of your program of study.

Deutsches Sprachdiplom (DSD I or DSD II):

Graduates of secondary schools who have obtained a (complete) intermediate school leaving certificate and a ‘’Deutsches Sprachdiplom der Kultusministerkonferenz - Erste oder Zweite Stufe’ (DSD I or DSD II) can be admitted to Studienkolleg courses. Please attach, if applicable, your DSD I or DSD II certificate to your Application for the Recognition/Validation of Foreign Certificates.

Netherlands

Conversion of grades

The conversion of Dutch grades into the German grading system is based on an average final grade point of 6 as the minimum passing grade. If the Dutch university sets the lowest pass mark at 5,5 a certificate issued by the university must be enclosed (see www.anabin.kmk.org).

Since Dutch university degrees do not indicate a final grade, the overall performance is calculated on the basis of the individual performances. With regard to weighted grades, we strongly recommend graduates of Dutch universities to ask for a certificate of their final grade or to enclose a certificate with their application which explains how the individual performances are weighted. You must provide this certificate in the form of a notarized copy accompanied by an English or German translation together with the certificates and diplomas to be assessed and the Application for Recognition/Validation. For more information on the conversion of grades, please visit our website, especially the FAQ section.
