Subject Matter

The Bachelor of Business Education provides students with sound technical skills in formulating, (further) developing and guiding curricular and extra-curricular professional education in the area of commercial administration. The main quality characteristics of this course include

1. the direct relation to the nationwide core curriculum for the university subject of Professional and Business Education.

2. the polyvalence of the qualifications with regard to study and employment,

3. the consecutive nature of the program's design (with the subsequent degree of Master of Science, M.Sc.) and

4. the relation to teacher training.

In combination with the subsequent Master of Education degree program "Business Education (M.Ed.)", students can access the preparatory service for teacher training. In addition to the core academic subjects (Economics and a minor of choice), the Bachelor of Science in Business Education includes many modules related to methodology, teaching practices and business education.

Depending on their individual career perspectives, students can also choose another area of concentration (Corporate Accounting/Controlling, Business Informatics, German, English, Spanish, French, Mathematics, Physical Education, Protestant or Catholic Theology, Social Sciences and Law) in addition to the compulsory components of the program. In addition to the fundamentals of professional training (career-related teaching and learning, and professional socialization), the business education components of the curriculum include an introduction to the methods of empirical vocational research, teaching methodology and professional practical training. As an integrative course of study, the Bachelor of Science in Business Education at JGU offers a double qualification. On the one hand, the polyvalent degree opens the door to the Master's degree in teacher training, which follows on from it. On the other hand, the degree forms the nationally recognized prerequisite for work in companies, chambers, associations, ministries, business consultancies, etc. Taking the study location of Mainz into consideration, it must be mentioned in particular that there are two special chairs here for Business Education, which together provide a broad range of courses for developing professional skills as well as providing comprehensive support and counseling for students. More information about the chairs can be found online at www.wipaed.uni-mainz.de/ls and http://www.wipaed.uni-mainz.de/ls/index_ENG.php
