Subject matter

The integrated master's program History/Histoire with a focus on Medieval History/ Histoire médiévale of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and the Université de Bourgogne, France, aims to provide students with theoretical and methodological expertise, with knowledge of historical developments as well as with the ability to explain them. At the same time, relevant practical skills for the discipline will be acquired and applied.

The German-French curriculum offers a broad education covering different eras and historical spaces with a special focus on Europe and the Mediterranean region. The students choose medieval history as the focus of their studies.  Regional and national perspectives and international and world-historical points of views are equally important.

Especially in the subject of history, the national points of views complement each other perfectly and contribute to a fruitful reflection on the respective research traditions and the development of a common perspective on history in research.
